How Interior Design Changes Your Nightly Rate

Nobody books a floor plan. Guests scroll a search page of thumbnails, tap the one that makes them feel something, and only then look at beds, baths, and price. That order matters: it means the photograph, and the design behind it, sets your nightly rate before any pricing tool touches it. Design is not decoration for us; it is a revenue lever, and we run an in-house design and decoration arm because of what it does to the numbers.
Design pays you twice
The first payment is the obvious one: a designed, staged home commands a higher nightly rate than the same square footage furnished from a weekend of clearance shopping. The second payment is quieter and often bigger: better photos win more clicks and saves on the platforms, which improves search ranking, which fills more nights. Higher rate times more nights is the whole revenue formula moving at once.
What actually moves the number
• The thumbnail wins first. One hero shot decides your click-through rate. We design at least one scene per home to be that photo: a pool at dusk, a statement living room, a view framed the right way.
• Cohesion over cost. A consistent palette and point of view photographs richer than scattered expensive pieces. Guests read cohesion as luxury.
• Amenities that photograph. Fire pits, bunk rooms, game walls, outdoor dining: features that create bookable moments and show up in search filters.
• Authenticity by market. A Pine cabin should feel like a cabin, not a gray minimalist condo in the woods. Sameness is the enemy of rate.
• Durability where guests are hard on homes. Performance fabrics, forgiving surfaces, replaceable accents. A design that cannot survive a bachelorette weekend is a liability, not an asset.
Why we build this in
Most managers list the home they are handed. We are the only Arizona manager with an in-house design and decoration arm, because the rate ceiling is set before the first guest ever books. It is part of why BonVoyage-managed homes earn about 40% more per available night than the market average (AirDNA, trailing 24 months). If you want to know what design would do to your specific home, our free rental analysis includes a design-uplift estimate alongside your revenue projection. Prepared by a real person within 24 hours.
